Mask of the Songye People – Kongo

€790.00Price
  • Traditional wooden ceremonial mask attributed to the Songye ethnic group from the Kongo region of Central Africa (present-day Democratic Republic of the Congo).

The mask is characterized by strongly stylized geometric features, an elongated facial form, protruding eyes, and a pronounced vertical crest extending from the forehead. These elements give the mask a powerful and expressive presence.

The surface shows a natural patina with visible signs of age and use, consistent with traditional ritual handling. The carved relief and layered pigment application reflect the established aesthetic language of Songye ceremonial art.

Muted earth-toned pigments emphasize the sculptural form and align with the symbolic visual traditions of Central African ritual objects.
